The fourth generation of Pokémon introduced players to many new elements that are now beloved by fans of the games. Wireless communication, the Physical/Special Split, the Underground, and detailed contests are all thanks to Diamond and Pearl. With the revival of Pokémon through these games, a revival in popularity soon followed, and now the generation IV games are considered a classic by many.

When this generation was new, merchandise was relatively easy to find since access to goods from Japan was much easier then in previous generations. However, in the years since, merchandise from this generation has become a challenge to find, specifically because of the many varied obscure sets that came out during this time. That being said, though some Pokémon from this generation lack plush and figures, most have some odd bits merchandise such as stampers or badges due to the large amount of sets released by Ensky and other companies during this generation.
